NLMK Kaluga reaches five million marker in crude steel
NLMK Kaluga went into production in 2013. Over the six months following its launch the plant reached its maximum run rate and keeps this high level today regardless of market conditions. The plant's innovative technological and management solutions support the company's upward trend in productivity increase and cost cutting.
The plant uses its high-quality crude steel for the production of about 20 types and standard sizes of long products and sections; and also markets it as square billets. Sergey Shalyaev, CEO of NLMK Kaluga, said: “Our new achievement of five million tonnes of crude steel output speaks well to the site's high growth rates and ample opportunities, as well as to effective teamwork of the plant's employees”.
The Company's equipment is unique for Russia; it allows producing the broadest range of premium-grade long steel for construction. The launch of NLMK Kaluga reduced the shortage of long products in the Central district and covered the demand from the construction industry for high-quality steel products. The yearly output of the mill is enough to support the construction of 12.5 million cubic metres of pre-cast and brick/pre-cast housing, or 19.5 million cubic metres of pre-fabricated housing.
